Silver citizens invited to meet by-election candidates

COUNTDOWN TO NORWICH NORTH BY-ELECTION - 8 DAYS

Older people are being invited to grill the candidates in the Norwich North by-election tomorrow.

Age Concern is stressing the importance of older people voting, and has organised the event, which will take place at 11am in St Luke's Church on Aylsham Road.

Phil Wells, chief officer of Age Concern Norwich, said that although the pension crisis is a problem for the future, many retired people are already struggling to live on state pensions.

He added: “Ian Gibson has been a valued campaigner for the rights of older people. Just recently he worked with us on an Age Discrimination Conference to report the concerns of the older people of Norfolk about the new Equalities Bill. He will be a hard act to follow and the candidates may have six months to prove themselves before the full election.”
